Match of the Month: Josh and Daeveon

Posted: September 26, 2017

Daeveon is 13 years old and an Eighth Grader at West Early College. He joined the Sports Buddies program at the beginning of the year and has had a blast since his first event with his Big, Josh. Josh works in Human Services for the VA and originally hails from Ohio making him a huge Cleveland Browns fan! Daeveon is a Denver native and a huge Broncos fan. One of their favorite events this year was going to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame tour and scavenger hunt at Mile High. Deaveon was pumped to take home a cool Broncos flag the museum was handing out and made sure to snap a few photos in front of the stadium. Some of the matches' favorite activities have been going to Sky Zone Trampoline Park, playing flag football, the sports spectacular event, and the Rockies clinic. They’re hoping to attend the Sports buddies Ski Trip this winter.

Josh has been extremely committed to the program and has just as much fun at events as Daeveon. They both have positive attitudes and bring an upbeat energy to the group. They joke around, love trying to outdo the other, and like to talk a lot of smack. They're already a close match and have taken advantage of the program by spending a lot of quality time together doing a number of different activities.

Another event they excelled at was the High School football clinic. The weekend before Deaveon was able to attend the Broncos “No Fly Zone” sports camp. BBBSC was offered a free scholarship and Deaveon jumped at the opportunity. He came to the event in all the free gear he got at the camp and couldn’t stop talking about meeting the players and how he almost won the final contest for his age group. Josh was excited to hear all about it and glad his Little had that experience.

They get along great and act like longtime buddies. Their energy is contagious. Josh is a strong athlete which fits well with Daeveon's abilities and goals. They play hard, do well with the group, and are always in the middle of the action. At the same time, they’re not overly competitive, know how to involve other people and understand it’s all about having fun.
