Over 600 golfers gathered in the evening on October 24th and 25th to participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado’s (BBBSC) first annual Topgolf For Kids’ Sake. Golfers enjoyed three hours of Topgolf competitions, challenged mentoring matches to minute-to-win-it games, and received incredible prizes. Over $160,000 was raised to support the proven power of one-to-one mentoring. Top Sponsors for the event included Boa Technology, EKS&H, and Xcel Energy.
The event at Topgolf replaced the agency’s longstanding Bowl for Kids’ Sake event that was previously held each fall. “While bowling was always a lot of fun, we felt it was time to try something new to add new energy to our fall fundraiser,” said Dave Ryan, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. “Topgolf is cutting edge technology, and you don’t have to be an expert golfer to partake in the fun.
Not only were funds raised through corporate sponsorship, but the event also featured a crowdsourcing fundraising model allowing participants to solicit donations from within their network via an online platform. A special committee was formed from the BBBSC Associate Board in order to assist the team at BBBSC with the overall event. The committee also felt very much tied to the revenue goal. “We finished with over $160,000 in revenue versus our goal of $150,000,” said Michael Oakes, Associate Board Chair. “Thanks to the Associate Board for not only helping us to exceed our revenue goal, but to all the volunteers and staff for making the event run so smooth. The guest feedback was overwhelmingly positive.”
