Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (BBBSC) has been proud to partner with Comcast since 2003. Comcast is committed to preparing today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders by investing in a variety of mentoring, service and scholarship programs. Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of the company’s national partners in this effort, supporting our programs in a variety of ways.
In 2017, Comcast became a Mentor2.0 Founding Partner with a grant of $32,000, bringing Comcast’s total investment in BBBSC to more than $157,000 in financial and in-kind resources. “This partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is a reflection of Comcast’s commitment to the communities where our customers and employees live and work,” shares Jeff Hamstad, VP of Human Resources for Comcast’s West Division. Jeff also serves on the BBBSC Board of Directors and is the Pikes Peak Board Chair. “Last year, Comcast contributed nearly 16 million in financial and in-kind resources to programs and partnerships that help communities across Colorado thrive. BBBSC is one of our most valued partners.”
Comcast also supports our agency, our Littles and their families by sponsoring BBBSC events, encouraging employees to volunteer and by offering the Internet Essentials program, helping more Colorado families connect to affordable home internet service for $9.95 a month (+tax). This program is available to families who have at least one child eligible for the National School Lunch Program or who receive HUD housing assistance. Many of the Littles and their families we serve are eligible for this program, enabling them to access many valuable technology resources.
We are grateful for all Comcast does for BBBSC and for encouraging their employees to be involved throughout the year. A special thanks to the following employees who volunteer their time:
- Jeff Hamstad, Board of Directors & Mentor
- Alison Busse, Associate Board Member
- Greg Poole, Advisory Board Member & Mentor
- Mary Spillane, Centennial & Women’s Committee Member
- Wendy DiBiasi, Mentor
- Jason Gannon, Mentor
- Audrey Hessler, Mentor
- Elizabeth Pigg, Mentor
Additionally, on April 22, 2017, Bigs and Littles participated in Comcast Cares Day, the company’s annual day of volunteer service. Every April, Comcast engages employees, their family members and community partners in volunteering to complete a variety of service projects on this day, the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. Our matches volunteered at Mi Casa Neighborhood Center and Lake International School/STRIVE Prep in Denver. Matches helped with a variety of clean-up projects, including deep cleaning the school auditorium, organizing the student library, cleaning teacher workrooms and lounge areas, providing light repair work in computer labs, and more. The Bigs and Littles enjoyed volunteering alongside Comcast employees to "make change happen" in our community!
Thank you Comcast for all you do to support BBBSC!
