'Tis the season of giving, and we wanted to let you know there are more ways to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado than just through a cash donation. We have included a list below.
Make a Gift of Stock
Did you know that gifts of stocks may provide additional tax benefits? For example, if your stock is more valuable now compared to when you purchased it, you may save on capital gains taxes by donating your stocks rather than selling them. Additionally, its current value may be tax deductible. As with all of your investment decisions please consult your professional advisors. For information on transferring stocks to Big Brothers Big Sisters please contact Erin Henninger at (303)800-7266 in Denver or Danielle Summerville at (719) 359.9843 in Colorado Springs.
Child Care Tax Credit
Grow Your Gift through Tax Credit
For the past several years, in order to promote giving to nonprofit organizations that provide quality child care in Colorado, the state has offered a special 50% income tax credit to taxpayers who donate to qualifying programs. The effect of this credit is that half of your donation is offset by a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your Colorado income taxes. Combined with other state and federal itemized tax deductions, the actual net cost of a donation is almost 1/3 of your gift, which makes it a great way to maximize your charitable giving.
Anyone considering this credit should consult with their personal tax advisor to confirm the effects on their individual finances. For more information, please visit the Colorado Department of Revenue FYI bulletin found by clicking here.
Cars for Kids
