Big brothers big sisters of colorado celebrates Big shots of 2009
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado hosted it's Annual Awards Ceremony & Reception on Wednesday, April 21st at The Denver Post Building. “Big Shots: an event celebrating our 100 most influential supporters” is an exclusive invite-only celebration to honor and celebrate Big Brother Big Sisters of Colorado’s most significant supporters and volunteers. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF COLORADO RECEIVES $215,000 FROM MILE HIGH UNITED WAY
After successful completion of the first Impact Investment campaign in 2009, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado was granted another year of support. Mile High United Way said of Big Brothers Big Sisters, "The work that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, Inc does in our community is critical to ensuring school age, low income and under-served youth succeed academically, graduate from high school and are ready to transition to college or advanced training."
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is one of 112 local recipients of Mile High United Way's Impact Investment funding. These metro Denver nonprofit organizations are dedicated to school readiness, youth success and adult self sufficiency. A total of $6 million will be disbursed to these organizations in 2010.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is proud to partner with Mile High United Way again and continues to strive to improve the success of our youth.

Pikes Peak Little and big meet President
It's the thrill of a lifetime, for a youngster from the Colorado Springs area. On January 19th, that youngster was on a plane on his way to meet with President Obama. His mission....to tell the President how it feels to have gained a new "Big Brother". Click here to read the enitre story.
2009 Agency Accomplishments
Provided 1,870 children with high-quality one-to-one mentoring relationships in metro Denver and Colorado Springs.
Program
Created Operation Mentor in partnership with Fort Carson Army Base to respond to the growing need of children with parents deployed for military service.
Secured new funding from Bonfils-Stanton Foundation and the Office of Juvenile Justice to launch an Aurora Sports Buddies program and to serve more children from Aurora Public Schools.
Increased average length of Big/Little matches to 18.4 months, a 15.7% increase.
Financial
Took proactive steps starting at the end of 2008 and during 2009 to reduce costs, focus on core programs, and plan for growth as the economy improved. Steps included moving to smaller office space, increasing operating and back office efficiencies and reducing overall expenses.
Exceeded 2009 revenue budget and finished the year with a significant bottom line surplus.
Diversified revenue sources and significantly increased the portion of the budget raised from individual donors.
Launched online giving campaigns to new donor demographics including younger donors.
Community
Strengthened partnerships with local school districts to better serve the community and to collect school data to better understand the impact of our programs.
Launched a “Be Big” awareness campaign in the Colorado Springs market.
Continued agency Inclusiveness Initiative and increased ethnic diversity among mentors and board members.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF COLORADO CELEBRATEs 90 YEARS on September 18th
WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Inc was founded in New York City in 1904 and is the oldest, largest, and one of the most effective youth mentoring associations in the country; and
WHEREAS, its focus is on promoting positive youth development by providing one-to-one volunteer mentors to help them achieve their potential; and
WHEREAS, on September 18, 1918, Claude Blake, Chief Probation Officer in Denver, organized a group of Denver men to officially launch Big Brothers of Denver; and
WHEREAS, the Big Sisters programs in Denver were added to the Big Brothers organization in 1921; and
WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, Inc. serves 2,090 youth in the state of Colorado in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado focuses on providing mentors to the most deserving youth living in low-income homes, with a single parent, where one-third of the youth have a parent incarcerated; and
WHEREAS, independent research shows that Little Brothers and Little Sisters are less likely to do drugs, drink alcohol, skip school, or engage in acts of violence, and that they are more likely to have greater self esteem, do better academically, and get along better with friends and family; and
WHEREAS, the day of September 18th, 2008 is designated Big Brothers Big Sisters 90th Anniversary in recognition of the thousands of lives of youth impacted over these 90 year in Denver.
THEREFORE, I, Bill Ritter, Jr., Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim September 18th, 2008 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado Day in the state of Colorado.

Big brothers Big Sisters: 2007 Cobiz Magazine top nonprofit company
On September 12, 2007, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado was awarded ColoradoBiz’s Top Company Award in the nonprofit industry category. The Top Company award recognizes distinction in business and economic enterprise for Colorado companies and is widely regarded as Colorado’s most competitive statewide business-excellence program. The award has been presented for 20 years but 2007 is the first year the nonprofit industry category was included.

Big Brothers are Impacting Lives in Colorado!
Good Day Colorado featured a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. The impact of growing up without a father is very strong for a young boy. Big Brothers are making a positive impact on these young lives.
