Be a Big Brother or Big Sister

A Big Brother or Big Sister (Big) is the older friend or role model all younger kids deserve. A Big is a consistent adult in the life of a child who is ready to have fun, be silly, teach and be open to learning a few things along the way. As a Big you will be matched one-to-one with a deserving child in one of our available programs. Most of the children in our programs are at-risk, between the ages of 7-12 and live in single parent homes. Just by being a consistent friend to a child you can have a positive impact that may change a life.

Because of positive Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Little Brothers and Little Sisters in our programs are MORE LIKELY to:

-Have greater self-esteem

-Better attitude towards school and academic performance

-Have better relationships with family and peers

-Avoid negative or delinquent behavior

Programs for Big Brothers and Big Sisters:

All programs include training and continued support from our professional staff.

  • Community Based Mentoring - Bigs and Littles choose their own activities and get together several times per month over the course of a year. Staff members support these relationships and plan enrichment activities.
  • Impact Mentoring Program - This program is similar to Community Based Mentoring, with an added emphasis on supporting a Little’s educational success through school partnerships.  Bigs are encouraged to enjoy activities in both the community and school settings, while also incorporating educational or learning elements into match activities that address their Little’s strengths and challenges in school.  Staff members support these relationships, and plan enrichment activities.
  • Sports Buddies Program -Bigs and Littles participate in agency-supervised and organized match activities including attending and playing team sports. We have a much stronger need for Big Brothers in the program as this program tends to attract more boys than girls.
  • Sports Buddies Impact - In this site-based mentoring program volunteers participate in planned and supervised sports related activities in an after school, group setting with their Little. Sessions are bi-weekly on Mondays and Fridays from 3:30-5:00pm at Ft Logan Elementary School (700 S Knox Ct, Denver, CO 80236).
