This January, as we celebrate National Mentoring Month – we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible bond between mentor and mentee (Big and Little). Meet our Little, Imari, and our Big, Spencer! They are one of Pikes Peak’s strongest matches and have been matched for 2.75 years. Both Imari and Spencer regularly attend our Big Futures programming together.
Spencer, a professor at the USAFA, is an incredible role model and helps hold Imari to a standard of excellence. He compassionately supports him when he struggles, while also pushing him to better.
Imari’s mom shared that he “has been more goal-oriented, and that the Big Futures workshops seem to be helping.”
Their program specialist has seen so much growth in Imari over his year attending Big Future workshops. In the beginning, Imari was quiet and timid; now, he has emerged as a leader, and is often one of the first to volunteer with a big smile, displaying a level of calm confidence when speaking.
